Wow. Has 3 months flown by or what? It feels as if it should still be November or something…
It’s time for the final posting for the Fall Into Reading Challenge sponsored by Katrina at Callipidder Days. I can’t tell you how excited I am to get my TBR list going from the other challengers. My list is getting mighty low right now.
Here’s the original list of that I chose to read. If I did a review for the book, you’ll find a link by the title. I didn’t do an in-depth review on a lot of them, but at least it might give you an idea of whether or not you would like to spend your time on it.
- Helen of Troy
by Margaret George (review)
- Ella Minnow Pea
by Mark Dunn (review)
- Never Change
by Elizabeth Berg (review)
- The Education of H*Y*M*A*N*K*A*P*L*A*N
by Leo Calvin Rosten (review)
- Blindness
by Jose Saramago (review)
- Uglies
by Scott Westerfeld (review)
- A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
by Betty Smith (review)
- Twilight
by Stephanie Meyer (review)
- The Kite Runner
by Khaled Hosseini (review)
- Daniel, Hosea and Joel
by God (review)
There are a few of my selections that I couldn’t read – some not my fault, some my own.
Though I have Specials sitting on the stairs, just waiting for me to crack it open, I can’t because someone has held Pretties at the library for well over a month now. I’ve been biding my time very impatiently, but to no avail. I can’t read the third until I read the second. And thanks to Devion, I’ll know to read the fourth when I’m done with these two.
The next two are my fault. I picked them both up last week and could have had them read, but two different books came into my hands the next day and I quickly gave up these reads in order to finally finish the Twilight series – which will be a whole other post in and of itself…
I feel very blessed that only two of my books (Helen of Troy and Blindness) weren’t worth the time, and I feel that was only because of the subject matter, not because of the writing. I would still read more of Margaret George’s books – though I think I’ve only two left from which to choose. On the other hand, though the plot was interesting and highly thought-provoking, I will never read another Jose Saramago. I can’t stand his style!
My favorite? Nope, can’t pick on this time. Most of the others I read will be on my Great Desserts page sometime soon. I enjoyed them well enough to want to own them. If you’re looking for funny, read The Education of Hyman Kaplan. If you want something on a more serious note, read The Kite Runner or A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. If you want thought-inspiring, read Ella Minnow Pea, Uglies or Never Change. If you want to know the mind of God just a little bit more, read the Bible – any book in it will do!
I’m really glad and thankful that Katrina hosts this wonderful reading encouragement. I would read anyway, but it’s great to see the number of people who turn out in groves to challenge themselves to read… just for the sake of reading.
I can’t believe it’s that time already! I started off with a great bang and then fizzled out last month so I am no where near completing the list. Oh well. Good job on your in spite of starting a new job and all. You’ve read a lot!
Shalee:
I am impressed by how much you read and envious at the same time. I used to read all the time but lately I have a lot of trouble finding time for any of my fun things. I am inspired by you and will work on reading more next year.

I enjoyed reading your wrap-up post, especially the “favorite” paragraph. Here’s my wrap-up post:

I liked a Tree Grows in Brooklyn. After reading it I could not believe I had not read it in school. It is def. a classic. I read it for the Classics bookclub at 5 Mintues for Books. I am really liking all the selections thus far. I am reading Hamlet right now.
Congratulations on what you accomplished with the challenge!
Oooh. I’m reading Uglies and Pretties for a challenge in 2009!
I wrote my wrap-up post last month here.
Great job. I read the Twilight series because I had to know what caused my 2 non-reader sons to devour the series.
Loved reading your reviews, as always. I completely agree with you about The Kite Runner, and I was the same way — putting it off for a while but then really liked it when I finally read it. And your review of Twilight has me wondering if I should just skip the next 2 books I had planned and go straight to that one.
Thanks again for your participation, encouragement, and awesome promotion of reading!
I read Twilight this time around as well. I absolutely loved it. I still need to read Kite Runner sounds like a good one as well
Can you tell I’m catching up on your blog today? This will be the third comment so far… I love your book reviews! Makes me want to go crack open a book and read right now.
Wow, what a list!
Congratulatiosn on the books you completed.
