WFMW – “Homemade With Love” Origami Christmas Wreaths
Nov 4th, 2008 by Shalee
I’ve just done something that I never thought I would do. I YouTubed myself, all for sake of you people. That’s love, y’all. That’s love.
Because seriously, every time I look at the video I cringe. I think I sound nasally. I don’t like watching my facial expressions and I really need to do something with that hair. I should have taken a second shot, but my energy was waning as I’m fighting the very beginning of a cold. (I struggled to stay away until I put the kids to bed that night. Ugh.)
Needless to say, I don’t think you’ll have to worry about my debut on tv… ever.
One bonus was that Mr. Right, after videoing me (Thanks, Mr. Right for holding the camera so still!), said, “Wow Shalee. You don’t say ‘uhhh’ a lot. That’s not normal in most public speaking cases. You say what you want to say and keep going.”
And the man is just now figuring this out? I’ve been saying what I’ve wanted to say for years… :o)
Anyway, this video is a short tutorial on how to make origami Christmas wreaths. I promised GiBee that I would show her readers how to make them for the Homemade with Love event going on at her place, but then I thought that I should post it on WFMW as an added bonus. If you are thinking of making Homemade gifts this year, you could find lots of links at her place.
If you were blessed with one last year and you wanted to know how to make it, here’s your chance. It’s stinkin’ easy to do and not as time consuming as you think. Perfect for the craft-challenged people like me. Seriously.
The best part? It’s inexpensive and something you can do with your kids if you so choose. One reader asked me how I did it so that her daughter could use the wreaths as an activity in her 3rd grade class. She said the kids had a blast and they all turned out really well.
If you decide to make the origami wreaths, you will need the following:
- Paper (I used scrap booking paper) cut to 3×5
- Glue, such as Elmers or a liquid craft glue
- Small hole puncher
- Small ribbon
- Bone knife, optional
That’s it. It’s easy, so easy that you could make several as you watch a movie. Before you know it, you’ll have so many made, you’ll have enough to send to all your family, even your 2nd cousin, twice removed on your mother’s side.
If you want some less retina-scarring tips, head on over to Shannon’s place for some really awesome tips.

Can i tell you JUST! HOW! MUCH! I love my wrather from you?
Cause- I DO!!

How cute are you? My girls will have SO much fun with this, and I won’t feel so badly about all the unused scrapbooking paper! Great job!
This is great. I think even I could have a go, being all thumbs.
Thanks.
I love this!!! Great to see you doing it in the video, thank you for that! Origami can be tricky when you don’t actually *see* it happening in front of your face
Warmly,
Col
I can’t see the video here at work. You Tube has been banned! But I’ll check it out later at home. Hope you’re doing well!
That was great. What a great craft idea! I have lots of scrapbooking paper around and my boys will love making a few to hang on the tree. Thanks for the idea!
Love finding easy crafts I can do with others! This is one I will try to do with the ladies group this year. Thanks for sharing!!!
That is great!! TFS
Cool idea!
This is so cute, what a great craft…. I may have to try this, thanks for sharing…
Don’t be so hard on yourself, you are adorable on video and your husband is correct- you are a very articulate speaker!
This craft is a great idea that I plan to try with my girls. We always look for several nice home crafted items to give away each year. Thanks for sharing with us!
How cute and easy are those, Shalee! Thanks for sharing and for the video.
This is my first time here. Can I just say? I love you already!!
I make Christmas gifts every year, and my boys always have a project too. (I’m not sure if they will hate me for that when they’re grown or not. Oh well.) And I LLLOOOOVVVEEE anything that uses scrapbooking paper. Because I love the IDEA of scrapbooking, and the supplies of scrapbooking, but not the time required of scrapbooking. Thanks for the tip! I’m glad I stopped by…and will be back…you’re hilarious!
Thank you very much for sharing such a wonderful and fun idea! Well executed!
???????!
This is so neat, Shalee! I love the YouTube tutorial.
Hey, I do believe you are in my Bible class at church! haha!
I came across your blog by way of clicking and clicking through blogs and I recognized you in this video.
I’m going to have to try the origami wreath!
…..and forgot to add….
now I’m humming “It’s a small world”!!!!
Thank you my dear! I simply adore my wreath, and let me tell you… it was an added bonus to open your Christmas card and have a little sumpin-sumpin drop out! It was so thoughtful, and I’m totally thinking about stealing your idea… if I have any time, that is!!! You rock, you You Tube queen!
I LOVE THIS!!! Thanks for being bold enough to YouTube yourself. I am now thinking I will be folding ALOT so I can give these out to everyone! I know my mother will love them – as she is into quilting and the one you held up reminds me of a quilt!
