I Am Too Smarter Than A 5th Grader!
Sep 22nd, 2008 by Shalee
Because I ponder things that a fifth grader wouldn’t consider such as:
- I’ve been noticing lots and lots and LOTS of September birthdays, so I quickly deducted the months to see when all these people became a comma in their mother’s wombs. Seems like some parents do A LOT of partying around the New Year…
- I noticed that though my tuna cans are the same size and cost the same, there is one ounce less in it than before this economic “fright” came into play. I’m getting chinzed by fish! (Companies are doing the same for cookies, chips and crackers. Eggs however are still a dozen in a carton. You’re welcome.)
- Twice this week I’ve had comments that The Girl bears some semblance to me… I don’t see it, but I could stand being called that pretty.
- I’ve decided to buy all my jeans in the Girls’ Department at Target. Nicer price and the waists aren’t riding near the top of my behind. Plus I hate looking like a muffin top!
- I’ve been thinking of lots and lots of books to read for the Fall Into Reading Challenge sponsored by Katrina at Callipidder Days.
I bet most 5th graders don’t think in those epic portions!
Wanna know what I’m reading? Good. Cause I’m going to tell you any way.
- Helen of Troy
by Margaret George
- Ella Minnow Pea
by Mark Dunn
- Never Change
by Elizabeth Berg
- The Education of H*Y*M*A*N*K*A*P*L*A*N

- The Spy Who Came In From The Cold
by John Le Carré
- The Polish Officer

by God
I know, I know… It’s stinkin’ short this time. But since I really hope to have a new job soon, I need to leave a little time for learning the ropes there. But if God has other plans for me and I’m home longer than I thought I would be, I’ll throw in some unplanned reads to make up for it.
What can I say? I’m a giver.

She does look like you. I’ve seen you. Seen pictures of the Girl. She looks like you. That is a good thing, she’s GORGEOUS just like her mama. And she likes books. Just put bars on the windows now.
She might like A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It is a good read. It is one book I won’t give away. I’ve dragged my copy around for years.
I have the Kite Runner. Need to read that. The list, she’s a growin’…
Ambitious list. Great choices.
Mine’s up.
Blessings,
Julie
My husband and I both have Sept bdays 3 days apart…his the 27th and mine the 30th. Since we got together, we have met prob 10+ people whose birthdays fall on one of the days between ours! End-of-Sept bdays are VERY common, and you’re right…even for those of us with v conservative parents, obviously people wanted to start their new year off right!
The Reading challenge looks fun. But I have no books! I will have to dig through the suitcases and see what I can come up with. Maybe I will play too.
I don’t think I am familiar with most of these (except #14, of course.
), but I did read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn a year or two ago and really enjoyed it.
Love your list! BTW also your name, my daughter’s name is Shalyn.
Happy Fall Reading
!
I loved “A tree grows in Brooklyn.” It’s a great book.
Good luck with your list!
I have a September birthday.
I am SO jealous of you that you can shop in the girls’ department! Skinny minnie!
Whaaaaaahhhh a few years ago I was a size 1 in jeans, and those were too big! Now I can’t even get one leg into a size 1.
I’m starting to look for another job, a full-time one that pays more than McDonald’s….so back to the search, I don’t like job hunting. I really don’t like job fairs either, something that they have a lot of out here.
Just FYI, the “Uglies” series has a 4th book now…Extras is the title, I believe. It was sort of a surprise, as we all thought it was a trilogy. I haven’t read it yet…simply because it’s only in paperback as of yet and I don’t want to pay that price.
Happy reading!
As always, an interesting list, Shalee. I have Twilight sitting on my bookshelf, though it didn’t quite make my fall list. It’ll be there for when I breeze through my fiction picks and find myself looking for more. And Elizabeth Berg is one of those authors I’ve never tried but keep thinking I should…
Looking forward to your thoughts & reviews.
How do you come up with your book lists?
The Uglies series is really really good. I think someone mentioned “Extras” in an earlier comment; check that out too if you can.
Also, just read the whole Twilight series. You won’t be able to help it.
It’s my first comment here, but I’m a Library Science student and couldn’t help commenting on books!
Wow, that’s quite a list. Many were new to me. I’m looking forward to your reviews.
[...] not having a hard time reading anything else though. I’m almost halfway through my reading challenge list. For shame, for shame on me. I also have several book reviews to write too! Gah! I need to [...]
