Out With The Old, In With The Cold

Jan 1st, 2010 by Shalee

Thank you for all the well wishes and prayers for us!  I’m sorry that I didn’t respond any earlier, but I have been a tad bit busy. :)

After a sleepless night for me (gee, I wonder why… I couldn’t have anything on my mind!), the rest of the family finally had to wake up because the 6 AM alarm was ringing, telling us to get up and beat the traffic as we made our way to Minneapolis.  Mr. Right took charge of the Penske truck whilst I drove the much more comfortable and manageable Honda Accord.

There are times when I love claiming my girliness!  :)  Bugs and taking the easier of two choices.  Not bad at all.

We were quite successful in making it through downtown KC before the rest of the world did, so we stopped for a relaxing breakfast at Cracker Barrell.  I love that place!  And I really wish that I had the time to look at all their Christmas sales!  Every thing was 80% off!  Maybe I can find one later this week and take advantage of it…  maybe not.  I don’t know where I’m going to put it in our 2 bedroom apartment…  Heck, I don’t know where I’m going to put most of the stuff we did bring!  Ahhh, the joys of living in a hodge-podge way.

(In case I didn’t tell, we’re leaving our furniture in KC while the house is on the market.  We’ve decided that air mattresses and student living will work for us!  We have been extremely blessed to have a couple of people up here offer us a couch and a recliner, so we won’t have to go to Goodwill to find those things.  Yeah for saving money!  Oh, and on Tuesday, we had a friend ask to rent the house until we sell it.  What an unexpected blessing indeed!  However, it meant packing up even more things as we tried to free up space for her personal items in bathrooms and closets.  She will use our furniture and keep an eye on things so that it will be well guarded while we’re away.  God really took care of that concern of ours!)

Back to the traveling:  I’ll make it easy on everyone – we had an easy drive and we stopped at Medford, MN so that we could go to the Columbia Outerwear outlet store.  We all walked away with new coats made to withstand this freezing cold weather.  It set us back a pretty penny, but at least we can make it in and out of our cars without turning into popsicles now…  Next up, boots!

We made it to Minneapolis in great time, especially when you consider that we spent an extra 3 hours outside of the car.  The roads were mostly clear and there was nary a bit of rain or snow to slow us down.  The only issue we had was when Mr. Right called me to tell me that he needed gas desperately and we started praying that God would provide a place soon or else we would be in trouble!  He did.  :)

One huge blessing we had was that we had friends who happen to be in town, so they invited us to spend time with their entire family for New Year’s Eve.  The Girl’s best friend was there, so suddenly this holiday was looking a whole lot brighter!  They fed us some great food and we played darts, Rock Band (I scored a 100% on the microphone!) and bumper pool.  Lots of talking and lots of relaxing ensued.

We retired to our hotel around 10 PM where we spent a little time trying to hear about some bowl games while Mr. Right tossed clementine sections to us as we tried to catch them in our mouths.  Do we know how to have  a good time or what?!  All I remember is that a little later, my head hit the pillow and I was out until 6 AM this morning.  Thank you God for a full night’s sleep!

Today we unload and try to figure out how to resume life in a whole new place.  We won’t have internet until the 6th… Ugh! Don’t they know that I’ve got useless things to do on the net?!  Sheesh.  I don’t know when next I’ll get to post, but maybe I can find a coffee house close for posting…

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Congrats on making it to MN safely. I pray your transition goes smoothly. Enjoy your second Christmas as you unpack boxes! Which reminds me…. I have boxes of my own to get to! Still a lot of stuff to put away here. It’s just been a little over a week, though. I don’t need to stress yet. :D

I am so glad you got a renter for the Ks house, and I pray that the sale will work out. Have a joyous time getting to know new friends and getting involved in a new church! I love you all!

It’s nice to hear that you made the trip and the initial move successfully. Try a Caribou Coffee for and internet connection- and great coffee!

Welcome, welcome Shalee! We just got back to MN ourselves, after spending the last week visiting family in Colorado.

And for the record, I wasn’t stuttering in my intro. I was shivering. DANG GIRL! Minnesota is pulling out all the stops for you. I believe our highs aren’t forecasted to get above zero this weekend. If you can survive this (in your new Columbia coats, smart move), you can survive anything.

Drop me an e-mail once you’re ready to have coffee and regain some of the feeling in your limbs.

Welcome to the north! Living in Michigan all my life, I appreciate the cold and snow and hope and pray you will come to love it too. It opens up a whole new realm of winter fun and activities. God has orchestrated this move and so we know He will continue to provide for each and every need. Blessings to your family Shalee!

Good news that you made it safe and sound and how wonderful that God took care of the house worries.

Happy New Year Shalee, to you and your family. May many blessings come your way as you start on your new adventure!

I’m so glad to hear the move went well. That you have Colimbia winter gear (excellent choice). Delighted to hear that you have a renter for the house. Happy settling in. Definitely try Caribou Coffee – fabulous coffee.

Well girl, over the last several months, I’ve obviously missed A LOT! Things have just been insane around my house, but they are slowing down now. And I’m looking forward to catching up with you!!
