Why Do The Weekends Go So Fast?

Nov 9th, 2009 by Shalee

We had a perfectly lovely weekend. Friday night, The Girl had a friend spend the night. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to do that. With the house on the market with an agent, I never felt comfortable inviting someone over only to tell them to get in the car so that we can spend time outside of the home because someone wanted to see it. Since we’re doing FSBO, I have that bit of leniency now.

So Friday night found us hosting a wonderful girl. We all watched The Two Towers while munching on brownies. Fortunately, everyone was worn by the time the movie was over. We all hit the hay pretty quickly, zonking out instantly.

The next morning, I slept until 6:30 which is pretty late for me of late. I was able to have good reading time and to enjoy the silence of a new morning. Around 8 AM, everyone was up and about; we feasted on eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. Oh my lands. I love a really good breakfast!

Around 9:30, I received a call from a couple who wanted to look at the house around 1 PM. We all hustled to clean things up; the kids were so excited that they ran outside to take care of the leaves out front. Unbeknownst to me, they decided that instead of sweeping the driveway and sidewalks, they started raking the entire front lawn. I love their enthusiasm, but holy cow! I didn’t plan on having to bag for a few hours… We got it all done anyway, but boy are my legs making me pay for it now. :)

Our house would fit the needs of this couple so much! Let me count the ways:

1. They need a place by the end of the month since their lease runs out. They want to buy now. (We can easily be out by then. Thank you God for movers!)

2. The house is only 5 minutes from his work. Seriously.

3. She homeschools. I was able to point to other houses close to ours where homeschooling families live.

4. They have two girls. I was also able to point out where other kids live in the neighborhood.

There were other things, but those are the highlights. They seemed to like the house, so I’m praying that God will put it on their hearts to want our place!

We had 2 other buyers scheduled to look at the house. One of them pulled up, called my house and asked if we were now FSBO (instead of being with a sellers agent) and then drove off! She didn’t even ask if we would be willing to pay the agent fee (which we are willing to do)! Boggles my mind because it’s the same house at a lower price and with new carpet… She completely didn’t have her buyers as her first priority!

The next couple came and viewed the house. The funny thing is that I recognized the woman (and she me). We found that we went to the same church; we just attend different services. They seemed to like it, but they have other places that they wanted to view as well. The agent came by last night for me to sign an agreement that we would pay her fee should they buy the house. She told me that she’s seen a ton of houses in our price range in our section of town (which is huge by the way). She said flat out, “This is the nicest house showing now… in case you didn’t know it. It shows extremely well too.”

That made my heart feel really good.

Last night, with The Girl at Life Group, The Boy and I snuggled in for some homemade pizza and a date to watch “Iron Man”. We had a blast. We’d seen it before, but it was fun spending time with just him. He needs it and so do I. (Don’t tell him that it’s a date. He HATES that description.) :)

This week is starting well and I’m of the hope that I’ll hear from that first couple today. I was just telling a coworker that it would be hilarious if God, who knows our situation and actually created it (!), makes it so that not only do we need to move, we have to hustle doing it!  That God… he sure has a wicked sense of humor sometimes.

So that was our fast weekend.  It wasn’t too fast or too slow… it seemed just right.  What about yours?

Glad your weekend went so well. Mine was busy, too. Hubby has been gone since the last day of Sept and is coming home Thursday. I’ve been working really hard on getting the house in shape for his return (unfortunately, we get a little lax when he isn’t around). The 3 younger kids have started being a great help to me (monetary rewards can be a wonderful incentive).

We have just a little over a month until we move… praying your move will be painless, and that you get a good offer on the house soon.

Sounds like lots of great possibilities and that God is granting you joyous opportunities in the midst of it all. He’s so good that way, isn’t He?
